THE CHURCH AT THE CROSS

... so called not only because our building is situated by the crossroads at the heart of the village of Great Glen but also because the cross of Jesus is at the heart of our life as God's (Methodist) people here. We are a warm, friendly bunch known for being open and welcoming, responsive and enthusiastic in worship, pretty informal yet supportive in fellowship, but also for serving the wider community.

As well as a pre-school Parent & Toddler (run ecumenically with our friends from St Cuthbert's CofE), two youth groups for 8-11s and 11-14s, and a midweek Bible Study, we hold a Saturday morning coffee drop-in which provides a meeting-place for those who are on their own for much of the week. Our premises offer a home for many of the village activities, notably the U3A.

In 2015, the congregation of The Church at the Cross, the Methodist Church in Great Glen, after much prayer and reflection, decided that the dingy and dowdy appearance of their 1827 Grade 2 listed historic chapel was harming their mission and needed a facelift. Find out what went on.
